A drop in the bucket

We have finally started our home ronovations. It is only a bit of landscaping for now, almost a full retaining wall in the garden is up. But it is just a drop in the bucket.
We have a whole basement that needs to be done. When we first bought our house the basement was concidered partially finished. When we moved in, it became unfinished. We ripped out old shag carpet, swag lamps not to mention wall and wall panelling. So, the first thing we are doing it installing 2 48x24 windows in the basement where there are no windows. Then there will be framing, drywalling, electrical, plumbing, carpeting. We decided to save ourselves some money in the painting department, pretty much the only area we feel we are compitent in. However it will be soooo worth it having the extra living space and some natural light in the basement. AND a place for our guests so they don't have to tent it in the backyard when they visit ( we haven't resorted to that YET). The price tag is hefty but It is like getting a whole other house built on. All of that extra square footage we haven't been using will have actual function. I can't wait.

Good luck with the home renos Amy! I wonder which one of the two of you is the gardener?

Good luck with the renos. We just did tiling and paint recently, and it was some bother, so bigger stuff will doubtless be an experience, but I'm sure you'll find it worth it in the end.

I was getting tired of concrete flooring (we actually did use the space anyway as a tv and computer room, but the unfinished look was getting to me), and I'm sooo glad it's done now - well, almost done : there's still the ceiling that would need some work, but it looks clean and tidy right now anyway with the white insulation bubble paper so it's bearable.

We WILL need to see some pictures.

Have fun with the Renos. Your basement has a great layout! It's going to look great!

If you need a de-humidifer for that basement, just let us know... well, nevermind. Shipping would be prohibitively expensive. You're welcome to use the name "Sucker" if you get one. It's much better than having to refer to it as "the dehumidifier" all the time.

Tal- As far as gardening goes I am it but I wouldn't go as far to call myself a "gardener". I am covering my garden in limestone rocks so I am only responsible for plant pots. No weeding there. can't wait to not have to pull weeds
Emile- The concrete floor actually has some nail head sticking out of it. Not sure why. The basement is really NOT baby proof, can't even really pretend it is. We are not that lucky.
Terri- Thank you I hope I am a good planner cause I really need the basement to function as one.
Mark- Dehumidifier??? Not a common need in this neck of the woods. We usually have the humidifiers going full tilt in the winter time. I can't say I know anyone who has one.
Simone- Oh! I have seen how you react when you get the updates from your husband on the phone. Not a fan of change are you???
