I have a job interview on Friday. I am really excited about it. I have decided to get a part time job and work when Simon is home and can take care of the kids. I wouldn't work in the day and pay a sitter, that would just be dumb. I would probably end up paying someone more to watch my kids than what I would make. Makes no sense to me.
So many reasons I want to work again
1) I want me kids to be as excited to see me when I come home as they are to see Simon. Totally jealous of the welcoming he gets. I get the " hey that lady is here, you know the one who is here ALL THE TIME!! kind of welcoming.
2) I say this and it makes Simon cringe but it is true. I need it to afford myself.
3) I want to make my own money for financial and personal reasons.
4) I can meet a whole new group of people. I meet people all of the time, but it would be a totally different crowd.
5) I get to interact with adults at work, help them and be something else other than mom. I know that being a mom is the most important thing a person can be but I need to be me too.
I am not worried about getting or not getting the job. Everyone is hiring now and you are pretty much guaranteed a job if you have a pulse. I hadn't even dropped off my resume 24 hours before they called me for an interview. I think the odds are in my favor. Hopefully I start soon. YIPPEE!!!

Good luck.
But you just said you wouldn't need it, so I take it back.
Besides, luck is overrated. It's all you, baby!
What for? Where at? Yay!
Biggest tip (and I work in HR, for what that's worth): the night before your interview, with Simon, practice talking about yourself and your skills, abilities - things that set you apart.
Be yourself! It is all you!
In my opinion, reason number five is the most valid of the bunch. A person needs adult stimulation other than that of just their spouse and regular friends.
(Um, that may have come out a bit creepy sounding.)
Anyway, go you! But be choosy. As you said, everyone is hiring. The fact that you can count to ten and spell your name makes you significantly more qualified than about 60% of the workforce. You can afford to wait for a job you will really enjoy.
Good for you! That's exactly why I went back. I needed adult interaction and I love it. Working at the hospital has been great!!!
Thank you guys for your support!!
There was actually two places that I was interested in working 1) I wanted to apply at a lingerie store here in town but when I went to drop off my resume I saw that the hours wouldn't work for me. Their latest nights were Thursday and Friday till 7:00 and they were close Sundays. So I just got back into my car and drove away. I was a little disappointed because it would have been lots of fun. They specialize in large bra sizes ( up to KK if you can imagine)..
the second one is the one I have an interview for. It is at Home Depot. Of the two jobs I miss the most one of them was working for my dad's construction company just out of high school. I worked there for 5 years. I did all kinds of things. And the other was my retail job. So I thought I could combine the two and try Home Depot. I will be sad if they don't call me back but I can't see why they wouldn't. I had a lengthy chat with the lady when she called to book the interview and she asked me what department I was looking to getting into. I had mentioned hardware because I have used a lot if different kinds and could be helpful there and told her a bit about my siding installer years . She had said that maybe building supplies would be a good one too. WICKED!!! Do you know how much fun that would be??? I wonder if they would let me wear my tool belt to work???
Paul- not creepy at all, I knew what you meant.
Good luck Amy! I hope the coworkers are a nice bunch. Home Depot is a fun place to shop; it could be fun to work there too.
I get the wanting to be around people part; it's what I miss most about my job. I've started maternity leave almost two months ago, and most days the only grown ups I talk to are Frank and my mom.
Plus, I love taking care of my family and home, and it easily eats up all of my days (and nights!), but sometimes I feel, or imagine, people think I'm not doing much because I'm *just* at home and not working (and Xavier still goes to daycare a good part of the week, so many days it's just the baby and me). They should try handling the cleaning, laundry, meals, etc. around here! Nonetheless, I always feel I should be doing more. Congratulations to you if you feel you can take on some hours out of the house as well (and make a couple spending bucks while you're at it!).
hope that it went well.. and umm.. adult stimulation.. not sure what exactly that is.. but sounds intriguing! ;)

I'm a little behiand here, but good (unneeded)luck, Amy. I totally get the need to get out of the house and to bring in some money of your own. Moonshot brings in a little with her piano lessons and I know it makes a big difference to her. And she's in a much better mood after those lessons just for the chance to socialize with a non-Gren (and her students are all under 14, so you see how desparate she is ;)
I've got my fingers crossed for the Home Depot...you'll look sexy in a smock ;)
Well...I'd say you've met some pretty great people through your kids! LMAO! Good for you Amy, I'm so glad you got what you wanted. It is nice every now and then to get out and feel a bit of independence!! I like being busy, no way in HELL could I sit and do laundry, cleaning, and cook everyday. I mean I know that your kids need you, but there`s only so much of a domestic godess one can become before she loses herself! So go for it! You know I`m behind ya 100%! Cheers my friend!
